AGRO CULTIVATION

Grains

Paddy/Rice forms a staple food across the world, more so in the tropical zones. Maize, wheat, and rice together accounted for 87% of all grain production worldwide. Keeping in mind the demand and reach of these, SAF developed its skill and expertise in cultivation of Paddy.

Moving away from the traditional method of Rice cultivation, SAF successfully implemented System of Rice Intensification (SRI Technique) thereby reducing the excess input costs at the same time increasing the yield. At SAF, we practice the Crop Nutrient Management system which was customized for each area depending on the nutrient requirement. SAF has implemented these systems successfully on a commercial level. Our focus is to enhance our productivity as well as the quality.

Our Paddy Varieties that we grow currently are BPT, CO 52, ADT 43, CR1009.

Pulses

India is the world’s largest producer and consumer of the Pulses. The demand for pulses has been growing steadily within the sub-continent that the last couple of year saw heavy import of pulses from Canada and neighbouring countries like Burma. Like Rice, Pulses is also considered as a staple food.

The traditional method of pulse cultivation in India, especially in southern India has been a broadcasting method after the paddy harvest (as a rotational crop).

Series of R&D by various institutes have proven that the cultivation of pulses in an irrigated condition and specific crop management will provide better yield and quality.

However, such research has not been translated reality, particularly with a large scale commercial model of cultivation.

SAF used Pulses specific crop management techniques and successfully cultivated Black gram and Green gram.

Coconuts

Our plantation business, at presents, mainly consists of the Coconut tree. We have control of around 100 acres of Coconut Farm in Tamil Nadu with various hybrid varieties.

We work closely with Central Plantation Crop Research Institute, Kasargod (CPCRI) for creating a sustainable farming method in our coconut farm. With the support of CPCRI, we have rehabilitated our farm and have adopted techniques and methods for building a self-sustained farm.

We believe in providing the highest quality of nuts for which we have adopted the various recommended practice and take utmost care of our farm.

As a part of which we have developed in-house vermi-compost manufacturing unit and we are implementing other practices such as creating in-house organic material sources like in-house cow management, green manure plants used for mulching purpose, bee hive management to increase pollination activity and other scientific, natural methods that help in establishing a quality farm.

We are now expanding our coconut farmers’ network in order to help other farmers for support as well as marketing of the produce.
